Lauren Ruth Martin is a breath of fresh air. She is a favorite of multiple clients, both adolescent and adult, and believes therapy should be anything but boring. Lauren practices from the philosophy that feeling "stuck" is actually good news because it is a signal that something needs to change. Her therapy style is both educational and emotionally charged. Her approachable demeanor makes it easy to open up and her non-judgmental stance eliminates shame. Around the office, "Lilly" is always the one who makes us smile.
Lauren is intensively trained Radically-Open DBT (RO-DBT), a specialized treatment for Chronic Depression, Anorexia-Nervosa, and disorders of Over-Control (OC) . Radically-Open DBT promotes openness, flexibility, and direct communication. Lauren has shown proficiency working with depression, anxiety, phase of life issues, codependency, self-harm, suicidality, and self-esteem issues. Lauren practices DBT and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to fidelity, specializing in Adolescents. Lauren has led groups on site, at residential centers, and created Tennessee's first online DBT-skills group. Lauren received her Masters Degree in Counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University, and completed her internship hours at Father Ryan High School's Personal Counseling Department.
Lauren can be seen around town trying new restaurants, practicing yoga, and singing along at concerts. Lauren may or may not have an obsession with reality TV, specifically The Real Housewives Franchises (Beverly Hills as the favorite), and believes in practicing "Alternate Rebellion" (a DBT Skill) by wearing Aztec print in direct violation of the Psychē dress code. Lauren has a passion for educating and equipping the community on mental health awareness. Lauren has appeared on local podcasts, blogs, and given educational talks for local colleges and organizations.
